Mid-Summer Updates & Vacation 2016

August 8, 2016

Hey there!!  It’s been a while since I’ve popped on here and written anything.  Lots has been happening at the Dahl House lately, and I have plans for some longer blog posts on the big stuff going on… but I thought I would take a few minutes this afternoon to give a quick run down.

Mid-July Brian finished up his service commitment to the US Navy.  For security reasons, I haven’t written much about his job on this blog, but now that he’s done, I’m looking forward to doing a little after-the-fact bragging about my BF.

There are things about being a military family that I will miss, but overall, I am very excited about civilian life.  No more duty days, no more underways or deployments, no more life revolving around the Navy.

Last week Brian started his new job, as a senior test engineer at Electric Boat.  He’s still getting a feel for things and is at a training school this week… I know he’s looking forward to getting to ACTUALLY doing some work there soon!

At the Farm

This bridge is part of what used to be the farm my dad grew up on.

Brian had two weeks off between leaving the Navy & starting at EB and we made the most of it!  Our vacation started with a trip to Illinois to visit some family.  I hadn’t been out that way in years, and it was so nice to get back.  We were able to be there for my cousin’s Sweet Sixteen party, which was definitely a highlight & a great opportunity to visit & catch up!  We also enjoyed going to the fair, a St. Louis Cardinals game (it was a big win!) and a trip to the zoo.  We finished out our visit there with a pizza party, and I loved hanging out with some of my favorite people in the world.

Then it was off to Cincinnati for some time with another favorite person- Brian’s sister Amy!!  I’d never spent any time in Cinci, and Amy made my first visit fun!  When she was at work, Brian & I hit up the National Air Force Museum… then we enjoyed an afternoon & dinner on the Ohio River, between OH and Kentucky.  Capped off this visit with meeting her roommate & going for a swim.

After we got home, we had a few days off, and then SAILING LESSONS!  I will definitely write a post about this soon!

Dahl House Designs has blown up lately; lots of things are happening & I’ve had some fun projects!  Recently, I was at a bit of a crossroads; doing websites AND graphic design was spreading me too thin.  I realized I couldn’t do both things, and do them well… I ultimately decided that I would focus exclusively on websites.  I will still do some graphic design stuff for fun, but it’s no longer a service I’m going to provide officially.

I’ve been working hard on a new Dahl House Designs website, and hope to have that done in the next week or two!

My summer job, scooping ice cream, has had it’s ups and downs.  I’ve enjoyed my workers and the perks that come with employment at an ice cream shop… but I don’t think I’ll want to do it next year.  Having some time away from home during the day is nice, but with so much to do for Dahl House Designs, I often would rather not be pulled away from that.

We are getting ready to give our living room a makeover!!  The first thing we’ll do is take down the lovely wallpaper.  Hoping to have that done before we have some company at the end of the month!

Looking forward to getting back to writing; you’ll be hearing more from me soon!!

How is your summer?  What have you been up to?
